EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Honor Flight of Southern Indiana is at the airport for a big welcome home for 86 veterans as they fly back tonight from a trip to Washington, D.C.

Families, friends and others who want to say thank you were gathered at the Evansville Airport with signs and flags.

Honor Flight of Southern Indiana told everyone about this welcome, and many people have come to show their support.

The trip to Washington, D.C. let the veterans see important places that remember their service.

Now that they are coming home, the community wants to give them a great welcome.

“It means a great deal because he’s known so many people throughout his life and to see them all have this outpouring of support and acknowledgment of his service and his commitment to our nation and his community speaks volumes about his character and the people here,” says Blake Wood, son of an Honor Flight veteran.

They were expected to touch down around 8:00 p.m. tonight, but due to the weather conditions, they were grounded but they back on their way around 10:00 p.m.
