Sickness reports in Tri-State increasing, local doctors say
TRI-STATE (WFIE) - Doctors in the Tri-State are reporting a major surge in sicknesses.
As we have reported, Muhlenberg County schools are closed today and tomorrow due to an increase in illnesses among staff and students.
Doctor David Schultz at Evansville Primary Care says he’s still seeing the remnants of COVID-19 cases and some RSV, but the most common right now is Flu-A .
He says the Flu always hits the Tri-State around this time of year, especially with cold weather and freezing temps causing the virus to spread more rapidly.
“We’re seeing more individuals get a little bit sicker this year than we have in years past, and that is because slight changes to the structure of Flu-A over time has made it a little less effective to the vaccines that were given back in august and September,” Doctor Shultz says.
He has been treating all ages for Flu-A this year, but says the older population is seeing worse symptoms.
Doctor Shultz says it’s still important to get the Flu vaccine because it will help calm the symptoms if you do contract the virus.
He advises everyone to continue to wash your hands and rest, but also suggests taking Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc if you do get exposed.
