OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Many groups are protesting as part of the “May Day Strong” Mass Mobilization Rally across the country on Saturday, including groups in Owensboro.

Indivisible Owensboro and the IBEW Local 1701 are expected to line the sidewalk on West Parrish Avenue just outside the IBEW Local 1701 headquarters from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Officials say, “The May Day Strong events honor the legacy of past labor struggles and demand public investment in our lives, not billionaire’s bank accounts.”

Organizers are calling for an end to:

  • The billionaire takeover and corruption under the Trump administration
  • Full funding for public schools
  • Protection and funding of Head Start programs
  • Fair wages for public school employees
  • Protection and expansion of Medicaid, Social Security, and critical social programs
  • An immediate halt to attacks on immigrants and allowing due process for all
  • Union protections, fair wages, and dignity for all workers.

According to a press release, officials say these cuts are being conducted just four months into the Trump Administration.
