Mt. Carmel family asks for return of stolen ashes of husband, step-father
MT. CARMEL, Ill. (WFIE) - For the family, Glen Markle Jr.’s ashes were more than just remains.
“He always was there, I never had to had to second guess it and I have never had a step-dad who was like that and to me that’s more of a dad than my real dad,” Glen Markle Jr.’s step-daughter, Kim Walston.
Glen Markle Jr.’s step-daughter, Kim Walston says they represented a bond with Mr. Markle and were intended for his final resting place alongside his wife.
“You know it’s just wrong that somebody came in and took him, violated his house, his ashes and took his last request away,” said Walston.
Walston says the thought of them being gone, potentially discarded or unknowingly held by someone else, adds another layer of pain to their grief.
“It was another point that just broke me because I looked at her and I am like so what are we suppose to do with you when you die if you were suppose to be buried with him and she looked at me and said I guess I am going to have to be buried alone and it was just heartbreaking because this isn’t what was supposed to happen,” said Walston.
The family says they are not seeking prosecution; their sole focus is on the return of Mr. Markle’s ashes.
They say they understand that the individuals involved may not have known what they were taking or the profound emotional impact of their actions.
Their priority is to bring Mr. Markle home and restore some peace to their family.
“Whoever did this will find good in themselves and you know even if you have done something wrong you can always make it better by bringing him back and just dropping him off. We don’t care about anything else but the ashes and his belt buckle, that’s all we want back,” said Walston.
