DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WFIE) - Nearly 50 Daviess County roads remain closed from high water, even after the river levels have crested. Now, officials are saying it could still be weeks before things are back to normal.

”We’re not out of the water yet,” said Daviess County Emergency Management Director Andy Ball.

Ball says as river levels start to fall, flooding remains the top priority.

“It will be a few weeks for recovery, at least,” Ball said. “For some it may be years. The Stanley, Birk City area, I know they’re really inundated down there along the Green River, more so than normal. They’re used to dealing with water, but not like this.”

On the west side of the county, communities are still isolated by flood waters. In addition to the 49 county roads that remain underwater, 15 state highways have partial flooding.

Now, the focus shifts from response to recovery.

“Really what that entails is now that the life endangerment stuff is out of the way, now we can focus on recovering from the disaster and getting everybody back to kind of a normalcy,” Ball said.

And as the water recedes, FEMA is getting a look at the damage, and local leaders are making plans for debris, home, and public space cleanup.

Daviess County EMA is offering Red Cross cleanup buckets for free. They say just call their office to coordinate a pickup. Their number is (270) 685-8448
