Two arrested on theft charges at former Peabody coal mine in Mt. Carmel

MT. CARMEL, Ill. (WFIE) - In Wabash County, deputies say two people were arrested following burglaries at the former Peabody coal mine property in Mount Carmel.

Deputies say they were told of a possible trespasser Wednesday morning.

When they arrived, they found 46-year-old Tara Cottrill in her car behind a locked gate.

Authorities say there was evidence of theft and damage to the property.

Deputies say later in the afternoon, they were informed of a man, later identified as 30-year-old Kyle Hall, walking from the area towards Keensburg.

Cottrill faces the following charges:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Burglary
  • Possession of Burglary tools
  • Theft more than $500 but less than $10k
  • Criminal damage to Property
  • Criminal Trespass to Real Property

Hall faces the following charges:

  • Burglary
  • Possession of Burglary tools
  • Theft more than $500 but less than $10k
  • Criminal Damage to Property
  • Criminal Trespass to Real Property
