EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - INDOT crews are hard at work making sure when the anticipated snow falls, they’re ready.

Officials say most of their pre-treatment work is already done ahead of snow Tuesday.

INDOT Southwest Public Relations Director Gary Brian says they use a variety of methods to keep snow from sticking to the roads.

“When you put salt on the ground when there’s snow on the ground, it melts,” Brian said. “The pre-treatment helps to make sure the snow when it falls on the roadway, it doesn’t accumulate. It continues to melt.”

Brian says after the ice and snowfall that came through in January, they’re more prepared for future storms.

“Luckily when we get something like this, we are aware that a system is coming our way,” he said. “Typically 48 hours out, we know what we’re going to be looking at. So yeah, we’re ready to go.”

Even though pre-treatment work is nearly complete, officials still encourage drivers to take it easy when the snow falls. They say the main areas to watch are bridges and overpasses, where roads freeze faster.

They also encourage drivers to watch out for INDOT plows that are clearing off streets after the snow is falling.
