Students get new, free shoes in Owensboro
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Students at some Owensboro Public Schools are getting a special surprise just in time for the holiday season.
More than 1,300 students are getting brand new shoes.
It was all made possible through Owensboro PBR and Rally Point Events and the Community Schools Grant that allows schools to partner with businesses in the community.
The goal is to meet needs and change outcomes for students and families in a positive way.
School officials say this shoe giveaway is just one example of that for students and families.
“This is a tough time of year anyways with the holidays and the changing weather, and the cost of everything but shoes are not cheap for growing young students. So to be able to provide a pair for every single family is certainly a blessing,” said Brian Benjamin, OPS Community Schools Coordinator.
Students at Estes and Cravens Elementary also received a brand new pair of shoes.
