Evansville runner back at it after life saving heart procedure
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - One man is looking to get back on track after receiving a life changing procedure in Evansville.
76-year-old Bill Knoll began running in marathons when he turned 35, and since has participated in over 400 races.
In 2018, Bill ran into some heart problems, but he did not let it slow him down.
Six years later he began fainting at the finish line of some of his 5K races and decided to head to Ascension Saint Vincent for a transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedure.
“Four days after the procedure, the doctor, well I said ‘when can I start walking?’ He said I could start walking right away. I said ‘when can I start running?’ He said, ‘oh it might be a week or so.’ So I said, ‘well, I already signed up for this race in four days.” I thought, well if I can walk, I can walk at home or a whole bunch of people. It’s like walking at home. So I entered the race and felt great, felt wonderful.”
Bill entered another race after his procedure and managed to shave off 19 minutes from his time.
Bill’s next race is this Saturday, and his goal is to improve his time with each race.
