Walkers and runners raise money for St. Jude
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Despite Sunday’s rain, almost 200 walkers and runners showed up to Bosse Field to help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Organizers say they raised about $125,000.
St. Jude area manager Stephanie Dillon says the event helps support 16 families in the Evansville area who are receiving care at St. Jude.
She says it’s a great way for families struggling with a cancer diagnosis to know they’re not alone.
“For them, events like this show that the community really has their back. And the community is the reason that they went to St. Jude and all they had to focus on was their child and not all the other implications of having a cancer diagnosis,” said Dillon.
Those who signed up to walk or run the 5K were asked to help raise money for the children’s hospital.
One of the runners raised an impressive $6,000 all by herself.
