Daviess County Schools return to class with new leadership at the top
DAVIESS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - Across Daviess County, students returned to the classroom for the start of the 2024 school year Wednesday morning.
New in 2024, former Assistant Superintendent Charles Broughton will fill the head position.
Meanwhile, former Daviess County High School Principal Matt Mason will fill in as the Assistant Superintendent.
Joining all of their public schools on Wednesday morning to welcome students back in was East View Elementary.
The principal and vice principal at East View are still relatively new faces as well, but they say it doesn’t matter top-to-bottom in their organization.
Whether you’re new or returning, they say the quality of education will never falter.
“This is year 23 for me, and Mrs. Grigsby, our principal, she was a teacher here as well, and we both left and we both came back because this is our home,” says East View Elementary Vice Principal Amanda Davis. “So we came back to make this place where it was when we started 22 years ago, and we’re just going to be the shining suns, and we’re gonna shine.”
Rolling out the red carpet for those first cars and busloads of kids, Principal Jo Beth Grigsby says this is their first chance to make that immediate impression and impact on a child while continuing to build a culture around not just East View but Daviess County Schools as a whole.
“Whether that’s Mr. Broughton or that’s Miss Davis and I or any other administrators in our district, our goal is to build that whole child, and we want them to be able to grow, learn, succeed, and achieve at high levels both with their social skills and with especially, most importantly, their academics,” Grigsby says.
