Man found guilty in double murder trial
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A man has been found guilty on both counts of murder that took place in Evansville last October.
Officials say John Parker was found guilty Wednesday afternoon on both counts in the murder of 31-year-old Michael Blankenship Jr. and 37-year-old Mitchell Greathouse who were killed on Mount Vernon Avenue.
As we’ve reported, police say two other men along with John Parker, Caden Harms and Richard Garrett, all played a role in the murders.
After seeing the evidence and hearing the testimony in this case, it was time for closing arguments.
What was interesting was the defense actually waived theirs, electing not to address the jury a final time.
It’s a strategy Prosecuting Attorney Stan Levco says he’s only seen one other time in his career.
“It’s a strategic move, and it really in my mind was not a bad strategic move because I felt like I was ready to give a pretty good rebuttal if they said anything,” said prosecuting attorney, Stan Levco. “So, I certainly appreciated the tactics involved. I wasn’t anticipating it, but I’ve had it happen to me once before.”
Parker’s sentencing is set for July 23 at 10 a.m.
He is being held without bond until sentencing.
We will update you as we continue to learn more.
