USI receives big grant for dementia-friendly initiatives
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The University of Southern Indiana has just received a big boost from the federal government.
The Health Resources and Services Administration awarded the program $5 million to continue its Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program for an another five years.
The funding will go towards integrating dementia-friendly initiatives in primary care while also promoting collaboration.
”It gives us the opportunity to collaborate across organizations, and I think when we can come together across organizations, we can create things together that we might not be able to do things alone. We have this opportunity in front of us to really impact the health of the community and the quality of life of older adults,” said Director of the Bronstein Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness, Dr. Katie Ehlman.
Leaders say the grant will also help address nursing home workforce shortages.
