EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The woman convicted of killing her husband, firefighter Robert Doerr, has been sentenced.

We were in the courtroom every day of Fox-Doerr’s trial in May.

That’s when she was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

As we’ve reported, Robert Doerr was shot in the driveway of their home in 2019.

At the sentencing hearing, his sisters and daughter read impact statements.

His sister, Angie Roybal, tearfully told the judge how Doerr’s grandson is growing up to look like him.

Through tears, his daughter, Lindsey Griffin, explained what her little girl said at his funeral.

“No Poppy. Don’t go.”

She said it was one of the hardest things for her to hear and to explain to her he was gone.

“He was my best friend,” said Lindsey.

Fox-Doerr’s son, Nathan Guthrie, also read a statement.

“I will never be able to forgive her,” he said.

Her other son, Taylor Barrett, spoke on her behalf.

“Everything she taught me made me the man I am today,” he said.

He said she would never be involved in this crime.

Attorneys read more statements from others that were in support of Fox-Doerr.

Plus, for the first time in this trial, Fox-Doerr spoke.

She denies having anything to do with her husband’s death, and said he was her best friend.

She cried through her words.

The prosecutor asked the judge for an aggravated sentence.

Fox-Doerr’s attorney, Mark Phillips, spoke about “residual doubt.”

He explained it was a circumstantial case, and he didn’t believe there was enough evidence.

He asked for the minimum sentence.

Phillips says an appeal will be filed.
