EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - School is almost out for the summer, and the Evansville Police Department is heading up its first ever summer reading series.

They are partnering with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, and Barnes & Noble.

The series led by Special Projects Coordinator Taylor Merriss.

Officer Merriss says she understands the benefits that reading can bring to children; most importantly cognitive, emotional, and language development which all help in achieving academic success.

The series is for those attending EVSC Summer Schools and anyone, within the age recommendations, who wishes to attend.

They’ll be held at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Libraries and Barnes & Noble.

The first reading session begins on Thursday May 30 at Barnes & Noble at 5 p.m. for three to six-year-olds and at 6 p.m. for seven to 10-year-olds.
