Veterans get a chance to meet before Honor Flight
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Honor Flight “Meet and Greet” got underway Thursday evening in Evansville at the CK Newsome Center.
On Saturday, more than 80 Tri-State veterans will fly to Washington, D.C. to tour the national war monuments.
Thursday’s event gave the veterans a chance to get together and mingle before the flight.
“This just shows how much the care and concern is for the veterans of all branches of the military,” said veteran, Bernard Peter. “I never thought that I would be. I tried to postpone it, I said ‘You know when I get to 84, 85, then it’ll be my turn.’ But everybody said you may not get that far Bernard so you better do it now we been treated like gold, everybody has leaned on over backwards for all of us veterans to be part of this honor flight.”
They will also meet the honor flight volunteers going with them.
The flight takes off at EVV Saturday morning.
Our Breann Boswell will join them to document the once in a lifetime experience.
