EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The University of Evansville opened its very first mental health and wellness clinic Monday.

This is to address mental health on campus and in the Evansville Community.

It’s been about three years in the making.

Licensed psychologists and physicians assistants will provide services.

UE Psychology students will also learn and help provide services alongside them.

Dr. Will Phillips is the Director of the clinic.

He says having students and licensed professionals provide services allows for more accessibility.

“We can accept insurance for individuals who are seeing our licensed faculty, as well as offer a cash based service for those seeing our students, that’s going to be about $20,” said Dr. Phillips.

Dr. Will Phillips is the Director of this clinic, he says this accessibility is crucial for our community

“If you go for any kind of psychological services whether that be testing for different pieces in our area, that wait time is going to be a year, year a half,” said Dr. Phillips, “so part of our ability is that slowly we’re going to be able to drop some of those pieces.”

Resources include individual therapy, group sessions, psychological assessments and treatment options for conditions like ADHD, bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression.

The hope is that this facility can help end the stigma around asking for help.

I think being a community based clinic being a little more affordable hopefully a little easier to get into lets people put their toe in the water, see what’s this all about is this really something for me, how can it be of benefit,” said Dr. Phillips.

The clinic will be open Monday’s from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

It will be closed on Friday’s.

Leaders hope to be at full capacity by May.
