EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - As we report on the ever-growing amount of construction updates, it’s also time to recognize National Work Zone Awareness Week.

According to traffic officials, last year alone in the state of Indiana, 7,000 crashes happened in work zones, causing over 1,500 injuries and 30 deaths.

Officials are reminding drivers that this time of year is when even more construction pops up, and to be cautious while in work zones.

“We’ve got a lot of projects going on, I think everyone in Evansville knows that, but this is really the time of year that all our projects start ramping up,” says Gary Brian with INDOT. “So we like to remind folks to slow down and pay attention to prevent those fatalities, injuries and crashes in works zones.”
