VANDERBURGH CO., Ind. (WFIE) - If you need another reminder not to drive through flood water, here’s one.

Emergency crews were called to a water rescue in Northern Vanderburgh County just before noon Tuesday.

It was on Hirsch Road, which is marked with road closed signs.

Authorities say a driver decided to risk it anyway, and the high water quickly stalled the car’s engine.

Thankfully, the driver is okay, but his car is not.

“Two water rescue guys went out, and they assisted him with our zodiac boat. Then, we brought them back to shore and continued to assist the tow truck company getting the vehicle out of the water,” said Evansville Fire Captain Adam Brock.

The rescue caused a traffic backup for more than an hour on North Green River Road.
