OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will block Barron Drive (KY 2707) and Middleground Drive West at their intersection with Carter Road (KY 2698) again on Wednesday for the installation of new traffic signals.

Officials with KYTC say they have been working with officials from Owensboro for over two years to design a project that would reduce crashes and improve safety at this location.

They say due to the presence of overhead high voltage lines at the intersection, traditional steel traffic signal poles were not an option, forcing KYTC to opt for lower clearance mast arm poles which had to be special ordered.

After some delays in the procurement process, the signals are now ready to be installed.

There may also be periodic lane restrictions on Carter Road throughout the day when workers will be in close proximity to or over traffic.

Once the new signals are ready, they will be placed on flash for around two weeks to give drivers time to adjust.
