PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Video shows a baseball stadium fight that started with an exchange of words before punches eventually went flying.

A fan at Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pirates game spat on the stadium employee, leading to the worker removing his belt and using it to hit back.

People with knowledge of the incident said the altercation initially started after two fans allegedly harassed a female concession stand worker. The game day employee attempted to diffuse the situation, which quickly turned violent.

“Ninety-nine-point-nine-percent, you’re not going to encounter too much trouble with guests,” Mike Kelly, president of the local ushers’ union PSIEU, said.

Even though the game day employee isn’t part of the union, Kelly and his members deal with unruly fans all time.

“I can tell you I’ve done the job for nearly 50 years, and on more than one occasion, I’ve been tempted, but the high road is to resist,” Kelly said. “But again, every story has two sides. You don’t know what to expect and that’s evident with what’s been going on.”

Police did arrive on the scene, but Pittsburgh police said no one involved has chosen to press charges at this time.

There is potential that could change as the Pittsburgh Pirates organization said they are reviewing PNC Park security camera video, which could show what happened just before the fight broke out.

In the meantime, the game day employee has been suspended.
