Aces not letting up ahead of quarterfinal against Monroe County
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - We continue on in high school football checking in with another one of the three remaining Tri-State teams in the playoffs.
In Kentucky, the Owensboro Catholic Aces are preparing for the quarterfinal round, this time hosting Monroe County. As the Aces continue to host throughout the playoffs, still with an unblemished record on the season and really no close tests since back in September, the focus centers in on not getting complacent, and playing as clean of a game as they have all season.
“The main thing is that we don’t self-destruct. We need to come out and be clean in all three phases of the game, make sure we’re not turning the football over, not giving up yards after contact, and a lot of free penalties and things like that. We just need to come out and play a clean football game and take care of business. As the number one seed, we know we will be favored the rest of the way, so we are focused on ourselves, making sure we’re not doing things to self-destruct,” said Head Coach Jason Morris.
Keeping the team in line doesn’t just fall on the coach, also to senior leaders like Waryn Ebelhar, who leads by example with his work ethic and relationship with his teammates.
“Really just keep them working, making sure everybody is competing, but at the same time, keeping everybody up and healthy. It’s been fun, it really has been fun. We have a lot of guys returning, it’s a lot of the same team. My relationship with Brady is really close. We’ve always been together. We both came over our eighth grade year, and we’ve been tight ever since,” said Senior Wide Receiver Waryn Ebelhar.
The Aces host Monroe County at Steele Stadium on Friday at 7PM.
