Girls flag football added as emerging sport

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Continuing in high school athletics, exciting news coming from the IHSAA on a sport that has blossomed all across the United States in recent years, forming a great following in Atlanta as you’ll see here, Girls Flag Football was added as an emerging sport for the 2025-26 school year.
In the release, the IHSAA says the Emerging Sport Porcess, “helps pave a way for sports and participation to continue to grow with an eye toward eventually becoming a recognized sport and sponsorship of an official state tournament.”
Girls Flag Football joins Girls lacrosse.
For it to become fully sponsored, 50% if IHSAA member school must participate.
