Very warm start to the work week, severe storms possible Tuesday
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Southerly winds will warm temperatures to above-average levels through the beginning of the work week. We are on Alert Tuesday for the potential for some severe storms. More showers and storms will be possible through the end of the work week.
High pressure will slide off to our east on Monday. Winds will then turn out of the south allowing warm and moist air to return to the region. Highs on Monday will top out in the lower 80s with mostly sunny skies. Winds will be out of the south between 5-10 mph. The weather will remain quiet and mild overnight. Lows will hover in the upper 60s. The weather become more active and unsettled by Tuesday. A cold front will sag southward Tuesday afternoon. The front will ignite the chance for more scattered showers and storms, some of which may be severe. The SPC has highlighted the entire Tri-State with a slight (2 out of 5) risk for severe weather. Widespread severe weather is NOT expected at this time. It’s still too early to nail down exact timing but the best chance for severe storms will be in the afternoon and evening. The primary hazards would be damaging wind gusts and potentially large hail. The front looks to stall out near the Tri-State area and act as a guide for another wave of low pressure to move in Wednesday and Thursday. Showers and storms will remain possible through the end of the work week before clearing out by the weekend.
