Rainfall becomes scattered through Sunday
Rivers will crest through next week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Rain will become lighter and more scattered into Sunday before completely tapering off Sunday night. Sunshine returns for the start of the work week with some more showers possible by the middle and end of next week.
We can expect rainfall to continue overnight. Lows will drop into the mid-40s. Rain overnight will taper to scattered showers through Sunday before tapering off Sunday night. Highs on Sunday will be chilly, only topping out in the upper 40s with winds out of the northeast between 10-15 mph. Scattered showers will finally taper off Sunday night with gradually clearing skies overnight. Lows will drop into the mid-30s.
Sunshine will finally return to the tri-state for the start of the work week. Highs on Monday will top out in the upper 50s to around 60. However, we’ll see a big cool down Monday night into Tuesday. Morning lows on Tuesday may drop as low as the upper 20’s to lower 30s with highs only warming up into the upper 40s to lower 50s. The good news is it will remain sunny. Our next chance for showers, and possibly some thunderstorms, will arrive along a cold front that moves in Wednesday night into Thursday. Despite the cold front, temperatures will continue to top out in the low to mid-60s through the middle and end of next week.
While the weather next week seems to remain fairly calm, all the rain we’ve received this week will flow into the rivers. This will, in many cases, lead to moderate or even major river flooding, especially across western Kentucky. The Ohio River in Evansville is expected to crest at around 46.6′ by April 12th, which is comparable to what was seen in the flooding of 2011. The Green River in Calhoun is expected to crest at around 34′ by April 9th leading to major flooding in the areas along the river.
