EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -The Storm Prediction Center upgraded the risk to 3 of 5 (Enhanced) for widespread severe weather and tornadoes on Sunday across the Tri-State. Some storms may produce very large hail, bigger than golf balls. In addition, strong, long-tracked tornadoes and 75mph+ winds will be possible. Storms may begin as individual cells with a higher tornado/hail threat then transition into a line of storms with a damaging wind threat. The timing still looks like late Sunday afternoon into the late evening, possibly overnight into very early Monday morning. Leading up to Sunday’s storms, we will have scattered showers and a few non-severe thunderstorms on Saturday as temperatures rise into the mid 70s. It will get windier on Sunday with southerly gusts at 30-40mph ahead of the storms. If the sun is able to come out for a few hours on Sunday, this will increase the chances for severe weather. Cloudy skies may help limit some of the strength of the storms. While this system is not nearly as intense as the March 15 event, it could still be just as impactful for the area. You should review your severe weather plan now and make sure you follow the forecasts through the weekend.
