On alert for isolated severe storms Sunday
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An area of low pressure will pass to our north this afternoon and evening, as it does so, a cold front will swing through the tri-state. The cold will reignite shower and storm activity later this afternoon and into the early evening hours. The SPC has expanded the marginal risk for severe weather through western Kentucky and up to and along the Ohio River. These areas have better chances for some isolated strong to severe thunderstorms as the front passes overhead. Widespread severe weather is NOT expected. The main hazard for any severe thunderstorm that develops will be damaging wind guts but hail and even a brief tornado can’t be completely ruled out. All showers and thunderstorms should clear out of the Tri-State between 8-9 p.m. Temperatures this afternoon are expected to warm up into the upper 50s ahead of the front. Monday will feature mostly sunny skies with highs topping out in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Some showers will be possible on Tuesday with highs topping out in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Temperatures will remain in the upper 50s to around 60 through the middle of next week before warming all the way up into the lower 70s by Friday. Slight chances for showers will round off the work week through Thursday and Friday.
