On Alert for 50 mph gusts and severe storms Wednesday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -Sunny skies on Tuesday and brisk southerly winds pushed temps into the middle 70s. A wind advisory continues through Wednesday for gusts of up to 50mph as a strong cold front heads toward the Tri-State. Skies will stay mostly clear overnight with lows in the middle 50s. Southwesterly winds will kick up on Wednesday at 30-40 mph with some higher gusts. A line of storms is expected to move across the Tri-State between 4 and 8pm. The Storm Prediction Center has a level 2 of 5 risk for severe over the northern half of the Tri-State, and a Level 1 risk for all other locations. A few storms may produce damaging winds and large hail. There is an isolated tornado threat, but the main hazard will be wind damage. Storms should exit the area after 9pm. Highs will peak around 70 on Wednesday, then drop into the upper 40s on Thursday with slow clearing. We’ll return to the 60s on Friday and stay there through the weekend. More showers and storms possible Sunday and Monday.
