EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -The risk and likelihood of widespread damaging winds and tornadoes is increasing for the Tri-State for late Friday overnight, and again on Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center upgraded the risk for Illinois to level 4 of 5 for Friday night. The remainder of the Tri-State is at a level 3 (Enhanced) risk. Swaths of winds of 75mph or greater and short-lived strong tornadoes (EF-2+) will be possible as a squall line pushes into the area on Friday. Storms should sweep across southern Illinois sometime between 6pm and midnight, and then into Indiana and Western Kentucky sometime after 10pm. A second round of severe storms is possible on Saturday afternoon-evening over the eastern half of the Tri-State (East of I-69), but this will depend on how the first round plays out. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph are possible outside of thunderstorms by Friday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will climb to near 80 on Friday and will fall into the 60s Saturday after the storms move through. Rain and storms will be out by Saturday night. Partly cloudy and cooler Sunday with highs in the lower 50s. We will quickly warm up into the 70s again next week, and more storms are possible on Wednesday.
