EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - A strengthening area of low pressure will slide in from the central plains and pass just to our north. This system will bring us rain and thunderstorms, primarily this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the majority of the Tri-State under a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe weather today. This means most of the activity will just be heavy rain and ordinary thunderstorms but there is a low/isolated risk for a strong or severe storm. If severe weather were to materialize, the main hazards would be damaging winds. Outside of a few stray showers/storms this morning, the bulk of the rain and storms will push in from the west between 3 pm-5 pm. Rain/storms should wrap up between 9 pm -12 am. Highs will top out in the lower 60s. Another component to this storm system will be strong gradient winds. Winds are expected to gust up to 35 mph out of the southeast this afternoon and evening.

The center of low pressure will depart to our north overnight into Wednesday. As this system exits the pressure gradient will tighten, allowing for wind to gust up to 40 mph out of the west/southwest. Spotty, wrap-around rain showers are expected for Wednesday. It is possible that some flakes will mix in with these showers headed into Wednesday afternoon/evening. Less than an inch of snow accumulation is possible on grassy and elevated surfaces. We’ll dry out for Thursday with mostly sunny skies before our next round of some light rain showers moves in Friday night into Saturday.
