Heavy rain ends late, snow showers early Sunday
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Heavy rainfall comes to an end from west to east by around midnight or just after. The cold air will crash in behind the rain overnight. As the cold air moves in, a quick burst of snow will slide through the Tri-State overnight/early Sunday morning. Accumulations are expected to be light with half an inch to an inch possible, mainly on elevated and grassy surfaces. With temperatures dropping to around freezing by Sunday morning, left-over moisture combined with some light snow accumulation may make for some slick spots.
Outside of some lingering snow showers Sunday morning, the rest of the day will remain dry with mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be breezy out of the northwest with gusts up to 30 -35 mph possible. Highs will only top out in the low 30s. The weather will remain quiet overnight with lows dropping into the mid to upper teens. Colder air will continue to plunge in from the north through the work week. High will consistently top out in the 20s with lows bottoming out in the teens and single digits. Outside of the frigid cold, we’ll have another potential snowmaker on the way Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. It’s too early to nail down totals but it is expected to be cold enough to sustain all snow.
