Drier and cooler Sunday, wintry weather returns next week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -A cold front will clear the region this evening, bringing an end to the shower activity. Cooler air settles in for Sunday and persists into next week. First Alerts have been issued Tuesday-Thursday next week for potentially accumulating snowfall.
For the rest of the afternoon anticipate some additional showers before they push off to the east this evening. Drier and cooler air drops in from the north tonight. Overnight lows will reach the upper 20s to around 30 with mostly to partly cloudy skies. Northwesterly winds may be breezy at times with gusts up to 20 mph possible. The wind should help mix out any residual fog through the overnight hours.
Sunday will be a cooler but drier day! Expect mostly cloudy skies with temperatures topping out in the upper 30s to lower 40s. The weather will remain quiet Sunday night with temperatures dropping into the upper 20s.
High pressure will keep the weather mostly tame for Monday with increasing cloud cover. Highs will top out into the low to mid-40s. High pressure will slide to the east by Monday evening, making room for Storm #1 to move in overnight into Tuesday. As of right now, it looks like locations along the Ohio River have the best chance for snow accumulations. Folks south of the Ohio River may experience more of a mix of snow/rain. System #2 moves in Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night. Details are more uncertain for this storm but it does still bring the chance for some wintry precip. However, the latest models have trended more on the rainy side with possibly a change over to some snow on the back side as the system departs Wednesday night/early Thursday morning.
