Doctors encourage vaccines during the holidays
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - It’s that time of year where flu, Covid and RSV cases tend to ramp up.
We spoke with a pulmonary doctor at Ascension St. Vincent who says there are a few things you can do to lower your chances of getting sick this season.
Flu season tends to take place from December to February for a number of reasons.
One of those is the increased amount of time people are spending indoors with large gatherings for the holidays.
The good news is area health professionals say this season, they have not seen anything concerning with flu.
They say numbers are normal right now.
However, doctors are encouraging people to get their flu shots so that numbers stay low.
“Covid and flu vaccines are important. They can significantly decrease the risk of severe illness. The recommendations are fairly straightforward. If you’re over six months of age, it’s best to get those. If you have other medical problems, diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, you definitely want to consider getting those vaccines,” said Dr. Robert Rieti.
You can also keep healthy practices in mind during this season like washing your hands, getting in some exercise, and getting plenty of sleep.
