EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Back to Decision 2024, we got the chance to talk with Congressman Jim Banks, who Hoosiers elected to the United States Senate.

Banks took 58% of the vote Tuesday night.

He will take the seat held by Senator Mike Braun for the last six years.

Of course, Braun is heading for the governor’s mansion.

Banks called the outcome for this election incredible.

He said not only is he thankful for Hoosiers for electing him, but also the nation for choosing to put Donald Trump back in office.

“President Trump winning the popular vote means that he has a mandate,” he says. “And republicans have a mandate to go to Washington and do what we said we were going to do. Secure the border, address inflation, the cost of groceries and gas and filling up the gas tank, and important issues like that. So we have a big job ahead of us, I don’t take it likely. I’m overwhelmed by the support I received around the state.”

Banks will be sworn in as senator in January.
