HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) - The Commonwealth of Kentucky saw record numbers of early voter turnout this year.

According to Secretary of State Michael Adams, just over 792,000 Kentuckians have already voted in the 2024 general election to date.

That includes both mail-in absentee ballots and early in-person voting.

“During the four-year election cycle in Kentucky, the Presidential race is always has the highest turnout,” said Renesa Abner, Henderson County Clerk.

Out of the four Presidential elections she has been involved in as the Clerk, Abner said this year’s election has caused their office to open even more locations due to the number of registered voters.

“This particular year is the first year where we have used the polling location models and had seven locations open for Presidential voting,” said Abner.

One of the popular polling locations in Henderson County is the Chase Fulcher Archery Center, where 8,400 people voted early this past weekend in Henderson County. That equates to a total of 27% of registered voters.

“This one has definitely been one of the biggest that we have prepared for, but hopefully we have done everything we can to be ready for tomorrow,” said Carrie Smith, Election’s Deputy for the Henderson County Clerk’s Office.

Smith, along with several elections officers, has worked tirelessly the last few days to instill a sense of security in those heading to the polls and casting their ballots.

“We take a lot of precautions to make sure that we have everything safe and secure. We have a great board that comes in and they check these machines,” said Smith. “These machines are all sealed up. I want the voters to feel very secure when they come out to vote. We take a lot of pride in making sure that we have safe and secure elections.”

Another way officials are instilling a sense of security in this election, is by adding even more security.

“We do have a deputy at all of our voting locations. They are there for traffic control, to make sure everyone leaves and enters peacefully. We have had no issues during early voting and I expect none here in Henderson either, but we are prepared,” said Abner.

Henderson County has seven polling locations open tomorrow from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Chase Fulcher Archery Center
  • Jefferson Elementary School
  • Presbyterian Church Of Henderson
  • Bend Gate Elementary School
