Daviess County Public Schools focusing on mental health with annual summit
OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Daviess County Public Schools hosted their 4th annual Umbrella Project Mental Health Summit Tuesday at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The day focused on mental health in schools, something leaders say they’ve emphasized since the pandemic.
“What we want to do every time we have one of these is provide strategies that teachers and staff can actually take back into the classrooms and help support the mental health needs of our students,” said DCPS Lead District Social Worker Christina Dalton.
40 different sessions were offered for local educators during the event. Organizers say it’s essential to invest in mental health and have tough conversations.
“When we are investing in the mental health of our students and staff,” Dalton said. “We’re creating more positive learning environments, we’re creating improved relationships between students and staff, and we’re creating an overall more improved school culture.”
The event invited educators from several area school districts.
