EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - There’s a new EVSC School Board Member.

Secretary Mike Duckworth confirms the board appointed Josh Barnett at their meeting Monday night.

He replaces Amy Word, who is no longer on the board after she was found guilty of maintaining a common nuisance.

Barnett was a middle school teacher for seventeen years, with some of those years being in Indianapolis and the rest at Washington Middle School.

Being on the school board is new to him, but he says he will do his best to learn the the job and help the community.

“I want to just get in there and kind of get my orientation underway and figure out where I fit the best,” he says. “I really look forward to being a part of a team and trying to just do the best job that I can and be the best representative that I can to our kids, our teachers, our admin, and so forth.”

The term ends at the end of the year.

Two District 3 seats are up for election in November.

Barnett is on the ballot, along with Amy DeVries and Rev. Terry Gamblin.
