EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - We four weeks away from the Great American Eclipse, and local schools are getting prepared.

Monday, 14 First Alert Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons was at Westside Catholic School talking to students about the eclipse and handing out protective glasses.

Students will be off school on the day of the eclipse, but educators are excited for this once in a lifetime learning experience.

“Real life teaching moments come at the most unexpected times. So we’re able to prepare our kids and let them explore those opportunities. It’s really exciting, and again, experiencing it through them is just what makes it best,” said Principal Jessica Zavala.

14 News gave 6,000 pairs of glasses to the Diocese of Evansville.
