EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - With less than two months separating the Tri-State from totality, business owners, event planners and emergency service officials gathered in Evansville for one of just a few remaining Eclipse Regional Task Force meetings.

“We’re getting so excited. There has been so much interest,” says Explore Evansville President and CEO, Alexis Berggren.

From Spencer County to as far north as Knox County, plans for events, lodging and safety were laid out as recommendations and advice were given and taken.

For Berggren, getting every available resource and plan they can under the same roof ensures people interested in experiencing this historic event can do so not only efficiently, but safely.

“From a public safety perspective, obviously our Emergency Management folks want to know where those crowds are going to be convening. They also want to know, from a weather standpoint, where people may be traveling to,” explains Berggren, “So, if Santa Claus is going to have better weather than we might, we need to be aware that that artery between Evansville and Santa Claus could be very very congested.”

By holding these preparation meetings, Berggren says these various events, while sometimes location or community specific, can actually help each other.

“Even just today, I saw some folks that were potentially partnering up in terms of how they might benefit each other’s events to add to that,” says Berggren, “A lot of things can come from everybody being in the same room and talking about what they’re planning.”

With no shortage of events going on, you can find a more complete list on Explore Evansville’s website.
