Ways to manage stress during the holiday season
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The holidays are filled with joy, but there’s also a lot of people experiencing a lot of stress.
14 News Mitch Carter met with Southwestern Behavioral Health to go over data and ways to take care of yourself and your family.
If you find yourself struggling and overwhelmed as we rapidly approach the holidays, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
In fact, studies show a large portion of the community is dealing with very similar issues across the board.
That’s where places like Southwestern Behavioral Health come in.
What’s historical touted as the most wonderful time of the year can sometimes feel like anything but... with the stress of gift giving, hosting, family, and perhaps being separated from loved ones and friends due to death or distance.
It’s important to check on loved ones and even yourself during this time of year.
Kevin Groes and Karen Warpenburg, the Director of Addiction Services and Opioid Overdose Response Coordinator at Southwestern Behavioral Health, say people need help all year long, and they’re there to give it -- including during the holidays.
To specifically combat already existing mental health or substance abuse issues while also preventing new ones from arising, especially around the holidays, you can reach out them directly anytime.
They’ll also be kicking off a new program on January 1 called “Sort,” or Southwestern Opioid Response Team, where Southwestern will receive referrals from the police and hospitals to go and meet those struggling in the community where they are.
